Reggie Black

I build businesses that matter, teach ideas that stick, and raise a family built to serve others.

One thread runs through all of it.

The order is not alphabetical

“In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”Proverbs 3:6

  1. God.
  2. Amy.
  3. The children.
  4. The businesses.

“We are here to serve others. We intentionally seek out ways to be generous and look for opportunities to share the truth of God’s Word.”

The Black family mission, verbatim

Chapter one

God.

“The fear of the Lᴏʀᴅ is the beginning of wisdom.”Proverbs 9:10

Before the companies, before the book, before anything with my name on it — I am a man under authority.

Thirteen years on the teaching team at Westgate Church; a member now at First Baptist Powder Springs; a teacher of men through One Thing for Men. And every Friday at five the phone goes dark until Saturday night — Shabbat, kept weekly, kept gladly. It is the one meeting that never moves.

“For wisdom is better than jewels, and all that you may desire cannot compare with her.”

Proverbs 8:11

Chapter two

Amy.

“An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels.”Proverbs 31:10

Married to the one person who has seen every version of me and stayed.

Amy homeschools the six and runs a household of eight with more operational skill than most executive teams I’ve sat across from. She is the difference between a busy man and a useful one.

Her grandmother Wilma didn’t approve of me at first — she asked her Sunday-school class to pray us apart. God used those prayers in reverse. We name her with honor.

Chapter three

The Six.

“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”Proverbs 22:6

“Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them.”

Psalm 127:4–5

Six children. Six arrows.

The work is not to keep them in the quiver. It is to aim well, and to let go well. They are not named on this page — they will write their own.

Somewhere, six inboxes are quietly filling with letters from their father, to be opened when they are grown.

Chapter four

The Work.

“Commit your work to the Lᴏʀᴅ, and your plans will be established.”Proverbs 16:3

“My core purpose is unlocking untapped potential — in the people I lead, the businesses I build, and the men I teach.”

“The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few.” Matthew 9:37

Chapter five

The Teaching.

“Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.”Proverbs 27:17

Ten-plus years teaching men. Four rules survived contact:

  1. Clarity over cleverness

If they remember your phrasing but not your point, you performed. Teach plain.

  2. Serve before you lead

Authority that wasn’t earned in service gets rented, not owned.

  3. Potential is sacred

Treat what a person could become as carefully as what they are.

  4. Results require trust

No one performs for someone they’re braced against.

“One decision by a father can change the trajectory of a family for generations.”

Chapter six

The Mats.

“For the righteous falls seven times and rises again.”Proverbs 24:16

Jiu-jitsu is the most honest hour of my week.

Nobody on the mat cares what I’m CEO of. You tap, you learn, you shake hands, you go again. I bring my son. I liked the arrangement so much I helped build MatMade — so anyone, anywhere in the country, can find a room like that.

Chapter seven · in progress

Others First.

“Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered.”Proverbs 11:25

A book on servant leadership, being written the slow way.

“Greatness is still available. But you do not arrive there by accumulating. You arrive there by giving.”

Others First, chapter one

The thesis is the thread you have been following down this page. God, Amy, the children, the businesses — in that order — and the order is the strategy.
